Adoptions.
Adoption applications can be filled out online and there is no obligation for submitting an application.
If you are approved and decide to adopt one of our cats or kittens, we request an adoption donation fee to help cover the cost of the shelter's veterinary expenses.
If you are interested in seeing a specific cat, please feel free to contact us so we can schedule a meeting at our shelter or with the appropriate foster home. Most of our cats are at our shelter in Lower Macungie Township but we do have a few in foster care. None of our cats are caged and have free roam of our shelter.
Our philosophy is to create the “Purrfect Match” every time. This will ensure that you and your new companion will be happy for the rest of your lives. We pride ourselves on the fact that we get to know the cats on a personal basis and can tell you more about the cat’s personalities since we are with them daily.
Our adult cats can be adopted by households where they may be the only cat. Many of our adults are also cat-friendly and could be placed in homes with cats already present. Some of the cats have not been exposed to dogs or other pets, so it is at the discretion of the shelter whether a cat can be adopted into a home with a dog.
It is our rule and recommendation that kittens under a year old must go in pairs, or to a home with another young cat, under the age of 4 years old. No exceptions.
For more information on why it is important to adopt kittens in pairs, you can check out the "Why Two Kittens Are Better Than One" blog post by Hannah Shaw, the Kitten Lady!
The Adoption Process
Applicants must supply the name and number of their veterinarian. We will call the veterinarian to verify that your current or former pet is receiving the medical care he or she needs. If you do not have any pets, we require the name and number of personal references that do not live with you.
Please remember that cats are living longer and can live well into their 20's. Adopting a cat is a commitment for life.
At times, we will post a cat on our website as a private adoption. This will be clearly noted on our website. If you are interested in a cat that is listed as a private adoption, please complete an online application. We will process your application and pass your information onto the current owner or caretaker for the cat you are interested in. IBK will not be involved with the adoption process once the application is passed onto the current owner. The current owner and potential adopter will agree upon the terms of the adoption. IBK does not make any representations or guarantees pertaining to the private adoptions.
Please allow our volunteers 48 hours to process your application. If you apply online, please check your email as we will respond to you via email. If you do not hear back from us within 24 hours please call or email us as we may not have received your application.
Please Note: Itty Bitty Kitty Inc., is located in Eastern Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley. Our rescue organization does not adopt out of state due to the initial home visit and follow-up visits. Please check with your local rescue organizations and shelter to find a kitten or cat.
The Adoption Donation
Our requested adoption fee is for an adult cat is $100 per cat.
The adoption donation fee includes the following:
-
FeLV/FIV/Heartworm Testing – a $40 value
-
Spaying or Neutering for all cats and kittens – a $90 – $200 value
-
All Distemper and Rabies Vaccinations – a $60 value
-
Deworming – a $20 value
-
Flea Treatment and Ear mite Treatment as needed – a $25 value
-
Microchip and Lifetime Registration of microchip – a $75 value
This adoption fee helps defray the cost of our veterinary expenses. Many of our cats may require non-routine work such as dental, or specific surgeries to prepare them for adoption. We appreciate any additional donations we receive beyond the adoption fee. Your continued support helps us care for many more cats and kittens.
All adopters are required to sign a legally binding adoption agreement at the time of adoption. If for some reason you can’t keep your adopted cat, IBK does require the cat to be returned to the organization. We also have a strict no-declaw policy. Declawing is considered a painful amputation of the cat’s toes and can result in behavioral issues. Please consider adopting a previously declawed cat instead.
